Imre Leader European champion 2010 (04/07/10)

Imre
Leader (pic) has become for the fifth time in his carreer winner of the
European Grand Prix. After earlier victories in 1986, 1988, 1991 and
2007 he can call himself also for this year European champion. This
means he becomes the sole record holder. Both Marc Tastet and Takuji
Kashiwabara have been four time European champion. Also he has taking
over the record of number of tournament victories in the European
Grand Prix from Takuji
Kashiwabara: he has won hist 14th, 15th and 16th tournaments part of
the European Grand Prix.
Imre
Leader
could already claim this victory in Stockholm due to five places in the top four of which three
victories: in Rome, Cambridge and Stockholm. The opponents were capable
of holding him off this year. Matthias Berg player well but not enough.
Takuji Kashiwabara played a lot, but not good enough. The
season did start very promising: after three tournament the difference
between Matthias Berg and Imre was only 85 points. After that Matthias
Berg quit playing and Imre Leader performed very strong in the two next
tournaments.
Matthias
Berg has thanks to one victory and another place in a final become vice
European champion. This is his best European performance of his
carreer. Takuji Kashiwabara finally passed Albert Kortendijjk and ended
third. For the tenth consecutive season he is part of the top three in
the finale standings of the European Grand Prix. This is an aboslute
record.
For
the first time in the history of the European Grand Prix a woman
managed to claim a place in the top ten. Caroline Sandberg Odsell ended
due to her second place in Stockholm an overall sixth place in the
final standings.
